Pastor Mark Maddox

Pastor Mark Maddox knew that God was calling him to become a pastor since he was a teenager.  Mark attended the Catholic Church as a youth and would take home a Missal after each mass.  A Missal contains all of the words from the mass. While other kids his age were trying to get out of going to church, Mark would sit up in his room and practice being the priest.

Besides a strong love for Christ, Mark brings to Sanctuary an extensive business and marketing background, a love for the laity of the church, and a strong desire to see this community grow to its greatest potential.

Pastor Mark has been a contributing columnist to the Marana Weekly News and is involved with the Marana Chamber of Commerce.

Debi Kromer, Director of Discipleship Ministries

Debi and her husband, Steve, raised two sons in Florida before relocating for a new job in Tucson. They feel blessed to have found a wonderful church home at Sanctuary. Debi is a former business owner and has spent the last four years employed at a faith based non-profit agency before joining the church staff.

While living in Florida, Debi served in leadership positions in the church nursery, VBS, and Sunday School. She also worked with teenagers and college students in the church Youth group and in Chrysalis. Here in Tucson, she has continued to serve in Chrysalis -- ask her if you donít know what that is! -- and has become a Certified Lay Speaker in the United Methodist Church. She loves leading womenís Bible studies and truly believes that the word of God is living and powerful! Debi enjoys reading, traveling, spending time with her family, Starbucks and chocolate!

Lora Wineinger, Church Secretary

Lora has been working for Sanctuary since January of 2009 and started attending the church in July that same year.  She is married and has 3 children: Megan, who is married, Michelle, who works in the nursery on Sunday mornings and is the youth director, and Matthew, who helps out with Sunday School and plays drums with the praise band a couple of times a month.  Lora's husband, Scott, teaches Sunday School for the older elementary kids.

Lora recently stated, "It has been a blessing getting to know each and every one of the wonderful people who call Sanctuary home and I look forward to getting to meet more people each week.  God has blessed me with this job and this church."

Lucie Parks, Director of Traditional Music

Lucie first began singing and/or playing piano at Sanctuary UMC in the summer of 2012. She sings at Sanctuary for the Traditional and Contemporary Services and directs the choir. Lucie grew up singing and playing the piano at several different Baptist churches in the Phoenix area.  She has always considered it a blessing to lead others in worship through music.

Lucie received a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and is currently working on her second degree, a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering at the University of Arizona.  Lucie loves to go to yoga classes, hike, run, bake, and watch entire seasons of television shows on Netflix when she probably should be studying.  Her favorite verse in the Bible is Hebrews 11:1, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

Mark Akin, Director of Contemporary Music

Mark has been working with the Sanctuary contemporary service since June 2011 and is excited to bring his love for Christ and music to the members of Sanctuary. Originally from Tennessee, he has grown up playing guitar in church in Jackson and Nashville, before making his way to Tucson in the summer of 2010.

He received his Bachelor's Degree in Guitar Performance from Belmont University in Nashville and is currently working on his Master's Degree in Guitar. Mark recently got married and enjoys music, coffee, and the outdoors with his new wife.

Mary Ware, Office Assistant

Mary Ware is on the office staff at Sanctuary Church. She was born and raised in Tucson, a genuine native Tucsonan. Mary spent 33 years living in Southern California and was happy to return to Tucson in 1990. She loves to bake cookies for gifts for friends and relatives. Her other passion: the flowers she lovingly tends in her backyard in the Sunflower subdivision.

Kayle McClean, Outreach Coordinator

Kayla has been known as a “social butterfly” throughout growing up; so it makes sense that she’s the outreach coordinator for Sanctuary. For a few years she has helped her dad with marketing his business and has done graphic work for him and in her current position with another company.
Having grown up in a small, conservative town in central Michigan, in 2007 she moved to Bisbee, Arizona to take care of her grandma. After completing her senior year the moving adventures began, taking her to California, Colorado, and back to Arizona.

She settled in Tucson in 2011 and is in the process of getting her Bachelorʼs degree in graphic design and marketing.

She has one puppy named Ruhe and enjoys spending time at the dog park with him. She also enjoys anything involving the outdoors, yoga, reading, and pretending to be a chef.

Beth Spikes, Website and Technical Support

Beth has been working behind the scenes at Sanctuary since May of 2012. She creates the slides for each Sunday service and keeps the church website up to date. Beth is married, with one little boy and another baby on the way. She moved to Avra Valley two years ago from California and is loving the hot weather and rural desert landscape! When not running around after little ones, she enjoys walking, spending time with family, gardening, spending time outside, reading, and playing video games.
