You are invited to attend an information session at 11:45 a.m. on Sunday April 30th to learn more about an initiative called The Open Table.
Open Table helps people living in homelessness and poverty through a faith-based model that draws together people and congregations who are called serve those in need.
Each Table is composed of a group of volunteers that make a year-long commitment to act–through relationship—as a team of life specialists, encouragers, and advocates. Over the course of a year, the Table works together to set goals, foster accountability, and implement a plan to create change. Those who serve on a table need not be “experts” in any particular area but only need to be called to serve.
Specifically, Sanctuary UMC is looking for six volunteers to serve on a table that would journey with a young adult who has recently aged out of the foster care system. This population of young adults is one of the most vulnerable populations in the US and the Open Table model has shown to be effective in helping people climb and remain out of poverty.
The exploration of this initiative has been endorsed by the Sanctuary UMC Missions Committee and the exploration is being led by Rev. Rob Rynders and Sanctuary member, Chris Olson.
Pizza will be served at the information session and the session will last approximately one hour. Please RSVP by e-mailing the church office at office@maranachurch.com or calling. Questions can be directed to Rob Rynders at robrynders(at)gmail.com. If you are unable to attend, but are still interested in learning more, and/or potentially serving on a Table, please contact Rob.
